Luis Cruz K59 El Salvador

Luis Cruz was born in El Salvador and is the head of photography and videography at a local surf camp. We first met at this local surf camp in El Salvador, while I was staying there surfing this past March. Not only does he kill it on a surf board and behind the camera, but he is also a family man. The entire staff was incredible. To this day I have never felt more welcomed, safe, and inspired to charge waves. The Salvadorians working there have so much love for their country and continued to share this with me for my entire stay. They taught me about their culture, history, and shared their delicious foods! El Salvador can have a reputation of being a bit dangerous, which can weigh heavy on the hearts of their people. The country has a profound history fighting wars up until roughly 20 years ago when they finally received their independence. They fought the El Salvadorian Civil war in 1980 between the military-led government and a coalition of left-wing guerrilla groups. In 1992 they reached negation which turned El Salvador into a republic. In addition, 95.4 percent of El Salvador's population is at risk of natural disasters such as volcanos, earthquakes, and hurricane. WOW! This prepetuates their slow development and struggle. Essentially, these people and their country have had a rough time getting their head above water, which might explain why these people are so strong, shred waves, and are so friendly and keen to share with me about their past.

When in El Salvador, try the local papusas, fresh fish, and the civeche. You will not regret it! Additonally, Luis Cruz took the photo of my friend Tina and I at the bottom of the home page and the water picture of me surfing. You can tell he has mastered his art, and if you are ever are in El Salvador don't hesitate to look up this wonderful man for your photography or videography needs! Thank you Luis!  look him up.
